Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Today we will be looking at some of the health benefits of olive oil. It is known to be used in cooking, but it has also been proven to be effective for many conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis.

In the Holy Quran, Allah States “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon Light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.”

The Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said “Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree.” (Tirmidhi, At’ima, 43). And also: “Eat olive oil with your bread, and oil yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree.” (Ibn Maja, At’ima, 34).

In Makkah Mukarramah, Molana Makki Saab recently advised people about the cure of diabetes with olive oil. Individuals suffering from diabetes should take two tablespoons of pure olive oil before going to bed and after waking up for 15 days, and In Shaa Allah, his/her diabetes will be cured. This method was also recently advised by an English doctor who took part in a workshop at Aga Khan hospital located in India.

Another health benefit of olive oil is that it aids in lowering high cholesterol levels. Individuals suffering from high cholesterol levels should, after each Salah, recite Bismillah, then Ya Kaderu (11 times), then recite Bismillah again followed by Ya Kaveyu (11 times). He/she should blow on their chest after recitation. This should be continued for 10-20 days and In Shaa Allah their high cholesterol levels will be cured.

Furthermore, olive oil can be used as a moisturiser for dry skin and a conditioner for dry hair and to minimise dandruff. It can also be used to treat sunburns, rashes, insect bites and wounds. Moreover, olive oil can also be used as a weight loss aid when ¼ cup of it is consumed in the morning, followed by a glass of warm water mixed with fresh lemon juice.
