Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Did you know these are the best 10 days of the year? The Blessed Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stated “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) than these 10 days”. The people asked “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)?” He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى); Except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.” (Bukhari)

So, what can we do in the best 10 days of the year?

1. Fast on the first 9 days (but not on the 10th day which is Eid)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stated “I used to fast the 9 days of Dhu’j Hijjah”. (Nisa’i)

2. Increase in the praise and glorification of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said “…so during this time recite a great deal of Tahlil (لا إله إلا الله), Takbir (الله أكبر) and Tahmid (الحمد لله) (Ahmad)

3. Fasting especially on the day of Arafah

These ten days include Yawm ‘Arafah (The day of Arafah) – fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years. Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari (رضي الله عنه) narrated, “The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of Dhu’l Hijjah). He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) replied, “Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.” (Muslim)

4. Offer a sacrifice

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stated “When you see the new moon of Dhu’l Hijjah, if any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, then he should stop cutting his hair and nails until he has offered his sacrifice.” (Muslim)

5. Give charity

Even if it’s a little bit each day since good deeds on these 10 days are more beloved to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)!

6. Recite the Qur’an

When did you last recite the Qur’an? Well now is the time to recite the Book of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) again!

7. Forgive one another

Just like we seek forgiveness from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), you can forgive the wrongdoings of others towards you. So, take this opportunity to forgive someone who has annoyed or hurt you. Start afresh with a clean heart! The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said “Those who are merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the Earth and The One in the Heavens will have mercy upon you.” (Muslim)

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) allow us to reap the full benefits of these 10 days.
